Sweet and Savoury Pancakes


Makes 4.

  • 200ml milk
  • 75g plain flour
  • 1 medium egg
  • 2 tsp oil

Savoury Toppings

  • Cheese
  • Ham
  • Egg (fried/poached/boiled)
  • Bacon
  • Pepperoni
  • Sweetcorn

Sweet Toppings

  • Sugar
  • Banana
  • Strawberries
  • Chocolate
  • Lemon Juice
  • Berries
  • Ice cream


  1. Put the flour into a large jug or mixing bowl. Add the egg and milk and beat with a wire whisk or a hand-held electric beater to make a smooth batter.
  2. Heat a non-stick frying pan. Add 2-3 drops of oil. Pour in a quarter of the batter, and tilt the pan so that it flows evenly over the surface. Cook over a medium heat for 1-2 minutes until set, then flip over to cook the other side.
  3. You can add toppings at this point if making a savoury pancake.
  4. Keep the pancakes in a warm place until they are all done.


Use half plain and half wholemeal flour for some extra dietary fibre.
