Cheese and Bean Pasties

Cheese and Bean Pasties


For the Flatbread:

  • 150ml water
  • 250g self raising flour (extra flour for dusting the surface)
  • 1 tbsp mixed herbs
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

For the Filling:

  • 150g cheese, grated
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 tin baked beans
  • 2 tsp mixed herbs
  • Pepper


  1. Preheat oven to 180°C/Gas Mark 5.
  2. In a bowl mix together the water, flour, herbs and oil to make a sticky dough. Cover the bowl with a teatowel and leave for 5 mins.
  3. Fry chopped onion in a little oil and allow to cool.
  4. Mix all the ingredients for the filling together in a bowl.
  5. Dust a clean surface with flour and knead the dough for 1 minute.
  6. Cut dough into 4 pieces and roll into squares.
  7. Cut out a round shape using a bowl as a template.
  8. Place filling in centre and fold over pastry using your thumb or a fork to press the edges together.
  9. Brush with milk and place in the oven for 15 to 20 mins.


You can try different fillings, but make sure they are cooked properly before putting them into the pastry.
