School appeal panel volunteers

We are offering the opportunity to help the local community and gain valuable experience of serving on a quasi-judicial body by joining our Independent Appeal panels.

Our panels hear appeals from parents and others about the refusal of a school place or the exclusion of a child from school. Full training is provided, and travel expenses are paid.

Requirements

We are keen to increase our list of panel members. Anyone over the age of 18 and from any walk of life can apply.

What’s involved

  • Attendance at a one-day training course, held in February each year in the Stafford area.

  • Agreement to attend 3 or 4 panels each year.

  • Reading appeal documentation before each hearing.

  • Being impartial and fair in considering the cases presented by both parties at the appeal.
