People in Staffordshire can grab a new year household bargain and support a community group or charity at the same time at a series of pop-up sales events in January run by the county council.

At all of Staffordshire’s household waste recycling centres, good quality reusable items are donated to county charities, care leavers who are setting up a new home or sold at one of the regular Rescue Me pop-up sales.

People can pick up a wide variety of bargains of items including kitchenware, toys, books, sports equipment and more. All money raised goes directly to a local charity or community organisation in the area the pop-up sale takes place.

The sales are held by the county council’s waste management team, which also supports Repair Café events in Staffordshire where people can bring their own items to be repaired and socialise with other attendees.

The next Rescue Me pop-up sales take place on:

  • Thursday 8 January: Silkmore Family Hub, Exeter Street, Stafford, ST17 8AG, 9am to 11am supporting Stafford Family Hub
  • Saturday 17 January: Working with Moorlands Repair Café, Foxlowe Arts Centre, Stockwell Street, Leek, ST13 6AD, 10am to 2pm
  • Thursday 22 January: Faraday Road Family Hub, Faraday Road, Stafford, ST16 3NQ, 9am to 11am
  • Friday 23 January: Rugeley Library, Anson Street, Rugeley, WS15 2BB,  10am to 1pm supporting Hoglets

Andrew Mynors, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for connectivity who oversees waste management, said:

There’s an extensive range of household items from sports and leisure to books and small furniture at the Rescue Me events, so they offer a great opportunity to pick up a new year bargain.

These events also support the invaluable work of one of our community organisations or charities.

Many of the items brought to our household waste recycling centres are of good quality and can be put to good use. Anyone attending one of the sales events can save money, reduce waste and help others.

This is another example of how our teams work with our communities on a daily basis in addition to providing our key services.”

The team also supports Repair Café events across the county, where people can take their useful items to get fixed for future use. The latest ones take place on:

  • Friday 16 January: Rehome Repair Café, Rehome Repurpose, Castlefields, Stafford, ST16 1BQ, 1pm to 3pm
  • Saturday 17 January: Lichfield Repair & Share Café, Curborough Community Centre, Curborough, WS13 7NY, 2pm to 5pm
  • Saturday 17 January: Moorlands Repair Café, Foxlowe Arts Centre, Stockwell Street, Leek, ST13 6AD, 10am to 2pm
  • Saturday 24 January: Burton Repair Café, The workshop behind Pinocchios & Escape Time, High Street, Burton, 9am to midday

The waste management team gives talks to community organisations how Staffordshire County Council is enabling more reuse whilst supporting local communities and charities. Anyone interested should email: wastesavvy@staffordshire.gov.uk
