Open Door is a work placement scheme for people in Staffordshire who are looking for a job. It gives you the chance to get real work experience and learn new skills.

What is it?

Open Door offers unpaid work placements with:

  • Staffordshire County Council
  • Local businesses and organisations

You’ll be treated like a team member and get support from a mentor.

Why join?

You can:

  • Learn what it’s like to work in a real job
  • Build your confidence and skills
  • Get a reference for your CV
  • Meet new people and make contacts
  • Improve your chances of getting a job

Who can apply?

You must:

  • Be 18 or older
  • Live in Staffordshire
  • Be unemployed and actively looking for work

If you need work experience for school or university,  please contact HR Talent and Resourcing. We do not support school, college or university work experience requests through Open Door talent@staffordshire.gov.uk 

How long is the placement?

  • Placements last 12 weeks
  • Hours are flexible to suit you and the employer
  • You may be able to extend your placement for another 12 weeks

There’s no guarantee of a job at the end, but you’ll leave with valuable experience and a reference.
