Work placement - Open Door

Open Door Staffordshire is a structured work placement scheme. It offers Staffordshire job seekers relevant work experience to enhance their employability and develop their skills, both within Staffordshire County Council and external organisations.

Benefits of placement

There are many benefits to gaining up to date work experience, including:

  • helping you experience a working environment

  • developing a work ethic

  • applying previous skills gained to your chosen work place

  • opening up future employment and education opportunities

  • building on your confidence, skills and knowledge

  • learning aspects of a career before investing money and time

  • gaining useful contacts in relevant areas

  • receiving a reference for your CV

  • increasing your employability

Requirements

Candidates must be:

  • Staffordshire based

  • 18+

  • Actively job seeking

Please note: If you are seeking work experience to support college or university studies, you will need to contact the relevant departments directly. 

What's involved

During the placement you will be treated like an employee and therefore given appropriate work. This will increase your skills and experience in the area of work you are hoping to gain paid employment or develop a career.

You will receive on the job training and a mentor to ensure you gain as much experience as possible to add to your CV and assisting with job applications.

Placement period

The placement is for 12 weeks. The days and hours of work are flexible to suit the candidates needs and the needs of the placement. 

At the end of the placement

Paid employment is not guaranteed at the end of the placement. Once you have completed 12 weeks you can leave with a reference or the placement can be extended for a further 12 weeks to enhance development.
