S278 Creswell Grove

Update – 2nd October 2026

The Section 278 Creswell Grove scheme is progressing well and is approaching completion of the present phase of works, which is to provide a new traffic lane on Creswell Grove to the west of the M6 J14. 

The final resurfacing works require overnight closures both ways of A5013 Creswell Grove from 19th to 23rd October 2026. The 230m long full road closure, west side of M6 J14, will be implemented at 10pm on Monday 19th October until 6am on Tuesday 20th October. The A5013 will then reopen for eastbound traffic only during the day. The night-time road closures are then repeated over the nights of 20th – 23rd, until 6am on Saturday 24th October. Night-time works are preferred as it significantly reduces disruption to local businesses, residents and daytime road users and well reducing safety risks in relation to traffic leaving the M6 northbound at Junction 14. Access to individual properties will be agreed by the site team, emergency vehicles will continue to have access as required. 

Completing these resurfacing works overnight in October will enable the current one-way road closure to be fully removed and the A5013 Creswell Grove to reopen both ways. This is planned for weekend of 31st October/1st November 2026. Following this phase, works will continue to the east of Junction 14 to deliver a new pedestrian refuge and undertake some resurfacing works on the roundabout.

S278 Creswell Grove

S278 Highway improvement works associated with the ‘Stafford Gate’ commercial development are being undertaken on A5013 Creswell Grove, A5013 Eccleshall Road and M6 Junction 14, Stafford.

These works are being delivered by Alto Construct and funded by the developer, Strawsons Holding Limited

The scheme includes;

  • Construction of a new priority junction on A5013 Creswell Grove
  • The provision of an additional traffic lane on Creswell Grove
  • A new puffin crossing on A5013 West of the new commercial development facilities Puffin crossing on A5013 Creswell Grove
  • Improvements to pedestrian and cycle facilities
  • Associated highway drainage and utilities works

When are the works taking place?

The Works commenced on 5th May 2026 for approximately 39 weeks

When will the works be completed?

The works on A5013 Creswell Grove are expected to complete in November 2026.

The works on A5013 Eccleshall Road are expected to commence following the completion of works on A5013 Creswell Grove and are expected to complete by the end of January 2027.

Will I be able to access my home/business?

The Contractor installed advance warning signs ahead of the works commencing. Any individual access concerns will be managed by the site teams.

What effect could the works have on me?

To allow the works to be carried out safely, temporary traffic management will be required for the works duration.

This could alter as the scheme progresses. However, the expected phasing is as follows;

Site establishment

Site establishment and off-line works – 5th May 2026 for 2 weeks

No traffic management in place

Phase 1 and 2

Due to complete November 2026 

  • The final resurfacing works require overnight closures both ways of A5013 Creswell Grove from 19th to 23rd October 2026.

Phases 3 and 4

18th November 2026 for approx. 4 weeks

  • A5013 Eccleshall Road operating under temporary traffic signals

Christmas period

Approximately 3 weeks

  • No traffic management in place

Phase 5

11th January 2027 for approximately 3 weeks - primarily night works

  • A5013 Eccleshall Road closed at its access to the M6 Junction 14 circulatory
  • Access from the M6 Junction 14 circulatory into A5013 Eccleshall Road will remain open

Please note that the safety of both the road users and the site workforce is paramount. Any road users who fail to comply with the traffic management measures in place will be reported to the Police. With any major road scheme, there will unfortunately be significant disruption, so we would like to thank people for their patience and understanding during the works period.
