Aerosols
Description
Reduce:
Instead of buying a can when on the go or for lunchboxes have you considered taking a reusable container?
Recycle:
Clean cans, aerosols, tins, metal bottle/jar tops, aluminium takeaway containers and tin foil can be recycled in your kerbside recycling or taken to any Staffordshire recycling centre.
Alkaline batteries
Description
Reuse:
Have you considered reusable batteries instead of disposable?
Recycle:
Staffordshire's recycling centres accept batteries, some shops also offer battery collection points.
Aluminium
Description
Animal bedding
Description
Home compost:
If the soiled bedding is from vegetarian animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, hamster etc.), bedding such as sawdust shavings, shredded paper, straw or hay can be home composted. Do not place waste from a meat eating animal in the compost bin.
Recycle:
Check your local council if animal bedding from a vegetarian animal can be placed in the kerbside garden waste bin.
Recovery (restrictions apply):
A daily disposal limit of 2 bags (80 litre or equivalent x 2) of animal bedding per household is in place at Staffordshire's recycling centres. Waste placed in the residual waste skip will be sent to one of Staffordshire's energy recovery plants.
Asbestos
Description
Cement bonded asbestos is found in many places in the home including rainwater pipes, gutters, water tanks, insulation boards, garage/shed roofs, boiler flues and domestic equipment such as ovens, heaters and ironing boards. Generally, asbestos materials in good condition can be left in place and painted but should not be drilled, sanded or sawn.
Disposal (restrictions apply):
Asbestos can be taken to recycling centres for disposal. There is a disposal restriction of 4 sheets (approximately 6' by 2; or 4' by 4') or 4 bags (approximately 25kg rubble bags) per household every 6 months.
