Assessment Management Plans (AMPs)

The Department for Education has determined the format and method for AMPs. All local authorities must maintain an AMP, and the DfE uses this to inform capital investment for each Local Authority.

Assessment

The assessment covers three core areas:

Schools should use these documents to report AMP data changes to the Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), identify their highest priorities and preparing a 3 year AMP.

  • Mechanical services (including heating systems)
  • Electrical services

How often

Specialist Surveyors from the Maintenance Consultancy undertake surveys within a 4-yearly cycle.

Grading

Each element is graded according to two criteria: its estimated life remaining and condition. 

Condition Definitions

Priority Definitions

  • Priority 1 -  Urgent work that will prevent immediate closure of premises and/or address an immediate high risk to the health and safety of occupants and/or remedy a serious breach of legislation.
  • Priority 2 -  Essential work required within two years that will prevent serious deterioration of the fabric or services and/or address a medium risk to the health and safety of occupants and/or remedy a less serious breach of legislation.
