As part of Staffordshire County Council’s Integrated Transport Programme, we will be undertaking highway improvement works on A522 New Road in Tean to install a zebra crossing. This proposal has been developed in response to increased pedestrian activity in the area and aims to provide a safer, formalised crossing point for pedestrians.
The proposed works include the installation of two integrated belisha beacons with street lighting and associated ducting, tactile paving, and carriageway resurfacing on the approaches to the crossing. Additional improvements will include the provision of dropped kerbs, new and refreshed road markings, the removal of existing signage, and the installation of new hazard warning signage on a new post.
When are the works taking place?
The works are due to take place week commencing Monday 1 June 2026
When will the works be completed?
It is anticipated that all works shall completed by Friday 12 June 2026.
Will I be able to access my home/business?
To carry out the works safely, the contractor will use temporary traffic management, including a single-lane closure on New Road, Tean, controlled by temporary traffic lights.
To allow for carriageway resurfacing and road marking, a full road closure will be in place between 9 June 2026 and 12 June 2026.
During this time, a clearly signed diversion will be in operation. This will route traffic from Tean along Uttoxeter Road towards the A50 roundabout, continuing along the A50, then following signs for Cheadle via Uttoxeter Road and Cheadle Road before rejoining Tean Road. The same route will apply in reverse.
Footway closures will also be required during the works. However, alternative pedestrian routes will be provided at all times, and both sides of the footway will not be closed at the same time. We kindly ask pedestrians to take extra care when passing through the works area.
Access to properties and businesses will be maintained wherever possible throughout the works. While some disruption is unfortunately unavoidable, Amey Highways will make every effort to minimise inconvenience and delays.
What effect could the works have on me?
Some disruption is unavoidable. You may experience delays, particularly during the road closure period and while traffic signals are in operation.
There may also be short periods where access to your property is temporarily restricted, although this will be minimised wherever possible.
You may notice some noise and increased activity during working hours. We recommend allowing additional time for your journeys while the works are in progress.
