S278 London Road, Lichfield - New Access
This highway project is a Section 278 (Highways Act 1980) agreement between Indurent and Staffordshire County Council to deliver a new permanent highway access into their development site. This scheme forms part of the first phase of the wider plans for the Land off Cricket Lane Development, which has received planning permission for residential and commercial development.

The works include the construction of a new priority signalised junction on London Road to serve the new industrial development, along with associated highway improvements:
- Widening of the existing northern footway to create a 3m shared footway/cycleway
- Widening of the existing southern footway to 2m (pedestrian only)
- Installation of an uncontrolled crossing across the new access
- Stopping up of the existing access to Ashbrook House
- Upgrades to existing drainage and street lighting apparatus
- Utility diversionary works

The scheme will be delivered by Amey on behalf of the county council.
When are the works taking place?
The works are due to commence in January 2026.
When will the works be completed?
The programme is due to last approximately 7 months, with a planned completion in Summer 2026.
What effect could the works have on me?
To allow the works to be carried out safely, temporary traffic management including 2-way temporary traffic signals will be required for the works duration. The timing of the lights will be optimised to ensure efficient flow of traffic through the works.

Night-time road closures will be required for the surfacing works for approximately 1 week towards the end of the works duration. A diversion route will be provided.
This may lead to some inconvenience and delay to journeys through the south Lichfield area. We recommend allowing more time for journeys during the works.
Will I be able to access my home/business?
Access to homes and businesses is to be maintained. Any access restrictions during the Night-time Road closures will be communicated by the site team to those directly affected.
