Main road in Cannock due to be resurfaced

An £115,000 highways project in Cannock is due to begin next week (12 January).

Highways crews will be working on the eastbound carriageway of the A5190 Lichfield Road, between Devon Road and Eastern Way, to resurface the road, replace ironwork where necessary and repair drains.

The work, which will take around 5 days to complete weather permitting, means the road will have to be closed to ensure the safety of crews. The diversion route will be clearly signed.

Residents will still be able to gain access through the closure, as well as emergency services.

Crews are scheduled to work overnight on 15 January to complete the resurfacing of the road, between 7pm and 6am.

Daniel Cecil, Staffordshire County Council Cabinet Support Member for Highways South said:

“Due to the nature of this road, this project will require a road closure to ensure crews can get the work done quickly and safely. Crews will be excavating the road, cleaning and repairing drains, replacing damaged kerbs and ironwork where necessary, and repainting road markings.

“We hope to have this work done as quickly as possible, but obviously this is a main route into Cannock so some disruption is expected. I’d like to thank people in advance for their co-operation while we carry out these essential improvements.”
