Appropriate adult for independent age assessments of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people

Unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people arrive in the UK without parents or carers and are supported by the local authority while their Asylum claim is processed. During age assessments, an Appropriate Adult is present to uphold their rights and ensure the process is fair, as required under PACE guidance.

Eligibility

  • Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children and Young People in the care of the local authority
  • Where an Independent Age Assessment is required due to significant reason to doubt the claimant’s age
