Parental advocacy
The Parental Advocacy Service supports parents to express their views clearly and confidently in matters affecting their children. Advocates can attend meetings with parents and provide emotional and moral support, especially when parents feel under pressure.
Eligibility
- Parents aged 25+ who have a diagnosed Special Educational Need and/or Disability (SEND), and who had an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or a Statement of Special Educational Needs that remained in place until the end of their formal education (i.e. was not ceased prior to leaving school or college).
- A cognitive/capacity assessment has deemed that the individual lacks the capacity to Advocate for themselves.
- Parents of Children subject to open Child Protection Planning, Early Intervention, or Child in Need planning
- Social Worker and Team Manager deem through assessment and discussion in supervision that the parent meets this Eligibility Criteria
- Advocacy cannot be sourced through a Court-appointed appointee
Referrals
Referrals for Parental Advocacy are made directly by Social Workers.
