As part of Staffordshire County Council’s Integrated Transport Programme, we will be undertaking highway improvement works on Halls Road and Station Road, Biddulph. These works aim to introduce traffic calming measures and improve safety at the junction. The scheme includes the installation of two pairs and one trio of speed cushions, new signage on new posts, a kerb build-out, an illuminated give-way sign, refreshed road markings, and dropped kerbs with tactile paving to create new pedestrian crossing points. Associated footway and carriageway reinstatement will also be carried out.
When are the works taking place?
Starting from 18 May 2026
When will the works be completed?
The works are expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.
Will I be able to access my home/business?
The works are scheduled to start on 18 May 2026 and are expected to take approximately two weeks to complete, weather permitting.
To carry out the works safely, the first week of the programme will require a full road closure to allow the installation of the speed cushions. During the closure, a clearly signed diversion route will be provided to guide motorists. The diversion will follow the A527, continue onto Mow Lane, Wedgwood Lane and Halls Road, and vice versa. Please note that during this period access will be limited to property frontages only.
During the second week, the works will be carried out using multi-way traffic signals to allow for the completion of the kerb extensions, crossing points, and related works. This approach is intended to minimise disruption as much as possible.
However, if any issues arise on site or there are safety concerns, full road closures may be put in place to ensure the work can be completed safely. Access to properties and businesses will be maintained wherever it is safe to do so.
Pedestrian access will remain available at all times, but we ask everyone to take extra care when passing through the works area.
Works will take place between 8:00am to 4:00pm each day, with traffic management removed at the end of each day where safe to do so.
What effect could the works have on me?
Some disruption is unavoidable. You may experience delays, particularly during the road closure period and while traffic signals are in operation.
There may also be short periods where access to your property is temporarily restricted, although this will be minimised wherever possible.
You may notice some noise and increased activity during working hours. We recommend allowing additional time for your journeys while the works are in progress. The proposed road closure will result in the temporary suspension of bus services along Station Road, Halls Road and into Gillow Heath for the duration of the closure. Unfortunately, it is not possible to undertake these works without a road closure, and the available diversion routes are not suitable for bus services.
How you can help us
