Highways improvements in Biddulph to start next week

• Crews to begin highways improvements on Meadows Way in Biddulph

• Work is expected to take two weeks

• Road will be closed every night from 7pm to 6am

£2.3m Derby Road resurfacing scheme starts next month

• A major three-month long scheme to resurface Derby Road will begin on 11 May.

• Work will be carried out in phases, including overnight resurfacing from July to minimise disruption.

• The project will improve road conditions on a key route into Burton, making journeys smoother and safer for all users.

Reaction to government structure’s fund announcement

• Staffordshire County Council says it will do everything it can to secure funding from the government’s new “Structures Fund” to repair key local structures.

• The council plans to bid for funding for Chetwynd Bridge (a Grade II* listed bridge near Alrewas) with an estimated project cost of about £27m.

• Staffordshire has 500+ structures over 100 years old and current funding would take “more than 500 years” to repair them all.

Programme of improvements for Staffordshire schools approved

• Plan for improving and repairing Staffordshire schools over 2026/27 period approved by Cabinet.

• Capital Programme for Schools 2026/27 will see facility upgrades and building repairs at over 60 schools.

• Improvements also include sustainability upgrades to improve insulation and be better for the environment.

• Stafford-based organisation Baby Bank supports hundreds of families with essential items for babies and young children for free.

• The group relies on volunteers and donations from residents and businesses.

• Family Hubs provide one-stop-shop for a variety of services.

• The centre will support goal of halving knife crime in next decade

• Focus will be on tackling illegal and underage sales

• Stafford Library extend self-access hours to the evenings, from 5.15pm until 8pm on weekdays.

• Open to registered members who must also attend a short induction.

• Residents can borrow or return books, use computers and print documents during these times.

• Retailers reminded of responsibility to display clear and up-to-date prices

• People can compare prices via Government's Fuel Finder tool and report petrol pricing issues to Trading Standards
