Self-access scheme extended into the evenings at Stafford Library

People interested in visiting Stafford Library during the evening outside normal opening times can now do so with the extension of self-access hours.

Having started Monday 6 April, the library is open to registered members from 8am to 10am and 5:15pm until 8pm Monday to Friday.

With almost 300 members signed up for the self-access scheme, residents are already able to use the library’s facilities early in the morning to borrow books, use the public computers, print documents, or simply enjoy the quiet space. The extended time means that this is possible in the evenings, as well.

The scheme is part of the library’s plan to make sure residents can access library resources at times that work for them.

Catherine Mann, Assistant Director for Culture, Rural and Safer Communities at Staffordshire County Council, said:

“Extending the self-access service at Stafford Library will give customers more opportunities to use our services.

“It also means that people who aren’t able to use the library during normal opening hours can now do so at a time that suits them.”

The Self-Access Service is available to all library members aged 16 and over who register for the service. Members must attend a short induction to learn how to safely use the library during unstaffed hours.

During self-access hours, library users can borrow and return books, access free Wi-Fi, use public computers, and print documents.

For added safety, the library is equipped with CCTV monitoring and security staff are present at Staffordshire Place. Additionally, a dedicated phone line is available in the library for emergencies.

For more information on how to register for the self-access service or to book an induction session, visit the Staffordshire Libraries webpage or speak to a member of staff at Stafford Library.
