Why council tax is changing

Council tax will rise by 3.99% in 2026/27 - lower than most other councils and below the national expectation of 4.99%.

This increase helps us manage:

  • rising costs caused by inflation
  • increasing demand for adult social care
  • growing numbers of children needing help and support
  • statutory services we must deliver by law

We continue to focus on efficiency and value for money - reviewing contracts, improving early intervention in care, and reducing avoidable costs. This careful financial management helps us keep council tax one of the lowest in the country for a county council.
