Animal by-products

Dead animals and the parts of animals that are not intended for human consumption are called animal by products.

These include:

  • Waste from butchers and slaughterhouses.
  • Catering waste.
  • Blood, feathers, wool, hides and skin.
  • Fallen stock.
  • Pet, circus or zoo animals and hunt trophies.
  • Ova, embryos and semen.

To prevent the spread of disease to humans and animals it is important that animal by products are disposed of in a safe manner.

Spills from Vehicles

Animal by-products must be transported in leak-proof containers or vehicles. If any spills occur we can investigate to see whether the carrier is complying with the law. We will also make sure that the spill is cleaned up safely.

Reporting spills

To allow us a good chance of taking legal action against anyone who breaks the law, we need you to pass us as much information as quickly as possible.

If you see a spill we need:

  • Date and time of the incident.

  • The registration number and description of the vehicle.

  • The exact location of the incident.

If you have seen the incident take place you may be asked to provide a statement of what you have seen that could be used later in court.

Please contact us to report a spill.
