Charity tackling loneliness finds perfect home at Staffordshire Enterprise Centre

Reaching CIC NEWSROOM

The team at Reaching CIC have found their perfect home at Lymedale Court Enterprise Centre.

A North Staffordshire charity helping people overcome loneliness and complex needs has found the perfect home at one of Staffordshire County Council’s enterprise centres.

Reaching CIC, founded by Georgina Salt, creates safe spaces where people can connect, build friendships and access trusted professionals.

The organisation has just moved into Lymedale Court Enterprise Centre in Newcastle-under-Lyme, part of the county council’s network of affordable, flexible workspaces supporting businesses and charities.

Reaching runs projects across North Staffordshire and East Cheshire with a particular focus on reducing loneliness and providing specialist support for people who hoard – a psychiatric condition that is often misunderstood and stigmatised.

Georgina, aged 48, has supported vulnerable groups since her teens.

She said:

“My background is in social work, where I became a manager before my own health struggles led me to retire at 38. That was a very difficult time - I am a transplant and severe sepsis survivor - but I now feel fortunate that I can continue working part-time with the right adjustments in place.

“Having experience both as a professional and as someone who has needed services myself gives me a unique perspective on how to support people well.”

The charity is the first non-profit in the North West to secure two years of National Lottery funding specifically for hoarding support. It works with Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and Aspire Housing, using evidence-based approaches rather than traditional 'clear and clean' methods, which carries a risk of retraumatising people.

Reaching has just launched its ‘Brew Crew’ initiative, where cafes and other community venues display orange hearts in their windows and people wear orange heart pins to show they welcome friendly conversation.

More than 60 venues are involved, with three ‘Brew Clubs' offering hosted tables where people can sit and chat with volunteers.

Demand for the charity’s services has grown rapidly. After starting from home and working in community spaces, the team needed a professional base that was affordable and flexible – and found it at Lymedale Court.

Georgina said:

“From the first time I visited Lymedale Court, I liked the atmosphere. The location is ideal - just off the A34 – and parking is easy, which makes a big difference. The building is always clean, secure, and well-presented with excellent facilities to support our team.

“Rob, Sharon and the team at Lymedale were fantastic during our move, and the first month rent-free allowed us to settle in gradually.

“The short-term contracts mean we can scale up or down depending on need, and the competitive pricing makes it perfect for a non-profit like ours. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Lymedale Court to any small business.”

Lymedale Court is one of eight enterprise centres run by Staffordshire County Council providing office space, meeting rooms and business support.

Martin Murray, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills at Staffordshire County Council, said:

“Reaching CIC is a fantastic example of how our enterprise centres support organisations making a real difference in local communities.

“Lymedale Court provides flexible and affordable space that enables charities and small businesses to grow. We’re proud to have Georgina and her team based here as they continue their incredible work tackling loneliness and supporting vulnerable people.”
