Staffordshire has marked another successful month in one of its key business support programmes whilst welcoming major investment by a flagship company.

Martin Murray, the county council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for economy and skills, said private companies are the beating heart of our economy. He added that this is why backing small enterprises and facilitating growth for UK and international sector leaders ensured a balanced and vibrant economy.

Over the last month, the county council’s Business Energy Advice Service has continued to deliver real benefits for local companies. PLAY@ Lower Drayton Farm halved its energy costs thanks to expert advice and financial support, demonstrating how targeted council initiatives are helping businesses cut costs and build resilience. The service has now been extended, offering more companies the chance to reduce their running costs and boost productivity.

Meanwhile, Staffordshire’s reputation as a destination for major investment has been further enhanced by JCB’s announcement of a £100 million investment in ultra-modern manufacturing facilities at its Rocester headquarters. This demonstrates the county’s appeal to world-class employers and its role in driving innovation and growth.

The county council has also reaffirmed its calls for government investment in the A50/A500 corridor, a vital route for local and international manufacturers including JCB, Rolls Royce, Toyota, and Alstom. Upgrades to this corridor could generate thousands of new jobs, unlock billions in economic growth, and support the delivery of new homes.  A recent parliamentary debate has recognised the strategic importance of the corridor, with improvements now being considered.

Martin added:

We’re maintaining the momentum where Staffordshire remains a location where small businesses are supported to thrive, major employers choose to invest, and critical infrastructure connects us to greater opportunities.

We are committed to backing our local businesses, attracting world-class investment, and making the case for the upgrades our communities need to prosper at the beating heart of the country.”

Martin Murray updated the county council’s cabinet at its meeting today.
