Repairs to Day Hole Bridge Manifold Way, Near Ecton
Following a comprehensive inspection, the superstructure of Day Hole Bridge is deemed to be in very poor condition and substandard in terms of normal highway loading capacity. Staffordshire County Council Highways team is undertaking essential work to both replace the rotting timber deck with a new concrete deck slab and strengthen the existing corroding 100 year old steel support beams together with the associated steelwork bracing.
In addition, the substandard parapet system will be upgraded to modern standards. The works will significantly improve the capacity and safety of the bridge for highway users to normal highway loading standards and improve bridge water management to prolong the bridge service life.
The works are deemed essential to ensure the bridge meets minimum national highway standards, and to ensure future public safety. The works will cost approximately £500,000 and will extend the structures useful life for another 100 years plus.
Day Hole Bridge will be closed to all traffic, but a temporary scaffold bridge will be provided for pedestrian and dismounted equestrian / cyclist access for the duration of the works. It is anticipated due to the complexity and nature of the scheme the bridge will be closed for a minimum of 16 weeks duration.

28 April 2025 subject to obtaining all relevant statutory consents.
When will the works be completed?
September 2025, (estimated 16 weeks works duration), subject to obtaining all relevant statutory consents, (allowing two weeks for mobilisation / demobilisation).

Yes
What effect could the works have on me?
Day Hole Bridge will be closed to all traffic, but a temporary scaffold bridge will be provided for pedestrian and dismounted equestrian / cyclist access for the duration of the works.
