Helping new drivers

Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) has relaunched a one stop website for people helping learner and new drivers to stay safe on the road.

Helping new drivers combines a wealth of information for people navigating their way through all the decisions involved in helping someone learning to drive and to stay safe as a new driver.

The website features eight short films covering topics such as choosing a driving instructor and private practice, through to driving on rural roads and in challenging weather conditions. Once you’ve watched the films you can take part in a short quiz to help you see what you’ve learnt.

It also features a range of downloadable materials including road safety talk sheets on topics to discuss before a young driver takes to the road. The issue of speeding, the dangers of using a mobile phone and the importance of wearing seatbelts are among those covered. Three short private practice guides for those accompanying learner drivers have been created to download and use.

SSRP designed the website as a place for credible, unbiased advice for people who support learner drivers, often parents or members of the extended family, as well as the drivers themselves.
