Turf

Reuse: If you have space you can layer the stripped turf in a pile. This will compost down to produce a great loamy top soil which can be returned to your garden.

Recycle

Turf can be accepted at any of Staffordshire's recycling centres, excluding Wombourne. It is not a statutory duty for the sites to take waste that isn’t produced in the normal day-to-day occupation of a home. Certain waste from household maintenance and improvement or garden work is not legally regarded as normal household rubbish and a charge or disposal limit can be made.

How much will it cost?

Turf edging can be recycled free of charge.

Larger amounts will be charged based upon the quantity of material deposited, the first two 50L bags will be free of charge. Payment for bags* will be whole or multiple of bags. It is £3 per bag after the first two 50L bags. You can pay with credit or debit cards. We cannot accept cash or cheques.

*Charges are based on standard rubble bags which are approximately 76cm x 96 cm. They are available from DIY stores. Waste can be presented loose or in different sized bags and charges will be estimated by staff.

Please note: these charges only apply to householders. They do not apply to trade waste which has a separate scheme.

What do our charges include?

  • Soil and turf
  • Bricks, hardcore and rubble
  • Stones, gravel and sand
  • Slates, slabs and tiles (floor, roof or wall)

A detailed list of items for each category, and whether they are charged for or not, is available on our charges page.

Large jobs

For large jobs such as landscaping, will mean you have to hire a skip and pay for the removal/disposal of the material.

Where can I take these?
