Home composting

If the soiled bedding is from vegetarian animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, hamster etc.), bedding such as sawdust shavings, shredded paper, straw or hay can be home composted. Do not place waste from a meat eating animal in the compost bin.

Disposal (restrictions apply)

Chemicals should not be placed in your kerbside collection. A small amount can be accepted at 12 of Staffordshire’s recycling centres (excluding Newcastle and Wombourne) and should be placed in the chemical safe. Please ask the site attendant for assistance. A limit of 5 x 2.5 litre (or equivalent volume) every 6 months is permitted.

Please note: we cannot accept chemicals at Newcastle Recycling Centre and Wombourne Recycling Centre.

It is not a statutory duty for the Recycling Centres to take waste that isn’t produced in the normal day-to-day occupation of a home. Certain waste types from household maintenance and improvement or garden work is not legally regarded as normal household rubbish and a charge or disposal limit can be made.
