S278 Creswell Grove
Highway improvement works under S278 for the ‘Stafford Gate’ commercial development are due to take place on A5013 Creswell Grove, A5013 Eccleshall Road and M6 Junction 14, Stafford.
These works are being delivered by Alto Construct and funded by the developer, Strawsons Property.
The scheme includes;
- Construction of a new priority junction on A5013 Creswell Grove
- Improvements to pedestrian and cycle facilities
- Puffin crossing on A5013 Creswell Grove
- Carriageway widening on both the A5013 Creswell Grove and A5013 Eccleshall Road approaches to M6 Junction 14

When are the works taking place?
The Works are due to start week commencing 4 May 2026 for approximately 39 weeks
When will the works be completed?
- The works on A5013 Creswell Grove are expected to complete in November 2026.
- The works on A5013 Eccleshall Road are expected to commence following the completion of works on A5013 Creswell Grove and are expected to complete by the end of January 2027.
Will I be able to access my home/business?
The Contractor will install advance warning signs ahead of any road closures and signed diversion routes will be in place. Any individual access concerns will be managed by the site teams.
The diversion route during periods of one way closure of A5013 Creswell Grove and closure of A5013 Eccleshall Road at the access to M6 Junction 14 circulatory are shown on the following plans;
What effect could the works have on me?
To carry out the works safely, we will need to use temporary traffic management throughout the project. This will change as the works progress and may affect how you travel in the area.
We will keep disruption to a minimum wherever possible and remove traffic management during the Christmas period.
Below is an outline of what to expect.
Site establishment
From 5 May – approximately 1 week
- No traffic management required
- You should not notice any impact on traffic
Phase 1
From 11 May – approximately 18 weeks
- A5013 Creswell Grove will be one‑way only, towards Eccleshall
- Access in the opposite direction will not be available
During this period:
- There will be around 1 week of night works
- The M6 Junction 14 northbound exit slip road will be closed at night
Phase 2
From 11 September 2026 – approximately 10 weeks
- A5013 Creswell Grove remains one‑way towards Eccleshall
- Reduced lanes on:
- M6 Junction 14 northbound exit slip road
- Junction circulatory
Phases 3 and 4
From 18 November 2026 – approximately 4 weeks
- Temporary traffic signals on A5013 Eccleshall Road
- Delays are possible at busy times
Christmas period
Approximately 3 weeks
- No traffic management in place
Phase 5
From 11 January 2027 – approximately 3 weeks (mainly night works)
- A5013 Eccleshall Road closed at the access to the M6 Junction 14 circulatory
- Access from the M6 Junction 14 circulatory into A5013 Eccleshall Road will remain open
