Appeals - Section 50
Licence refusal and appeals
If your application for a Section 50 licence is refused, you may be able to appeal—but only in specific circumstances.
When can I appeal?
You can appeal to the Secretary of State only if the proposed apparatus crosses the street (for example, from kerb to kerb) and the highway authority refuses to grant a licence.
More information about the appeal process is available on the Department for Transport website.
When can’t I appeal?
If the apparatus is proposed to run along the highway and the licence is refused, there is no formal appeal process. You may submit a complaint through our standard complaints procedure, but this will not be treated as an appeal and the decision will not be overturned.
