What happens next

Once we receive your application, we will:

  1. Register your application and check that all required information has been provided

If any information is missing, we will not be able to process your application. We will let you know what is needed when we contact you for payment.

Assessment

Your application will be passed to our assessment team. An inspection may be carried out to:

  • Verify the details provided
  • Assess safety implications
  • Determine if special conditions are needed

We aim to respond within 2–3 weeks of receiving your application. The response will either:

  • Grant a licence with any necessary conditions
  • Refuse the licence with reasons provided

After a licence is granted

  • Installation must take place within 1 year. If not, the licence may be terminated and a new application may be required.
  • No works can begin until a Section 171 permit to dig is granted to the nominated contractor. Details will be provided with the licence.
  • After works are completed, an as-laid drawing of the apparatus must be sent to the Traffic and Network team.
