A three-week scheme to resurface a road in Burton town centre is starting today.
This £208,000 highways scheme, delivered by Staffordshire County Council, involves resurfacing the route between the Burton Place car park entrance on Worthington Way to The Dial on Station Road.
Resurfacing is taking place overnight from Mondays to Thursdays (inclusive of Friday mornings) to minimise disruption as much as possible for residents and businesses in the area. The roads being worked on will, otherwise, remain open to all traffic during the daytime.
No overnight works will take place at the weekend or on bank holidays.
Businesses remain open as usual and pedestrian access will continue to be maintained throughout the scheme.
Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said:
“It’s great to see work now underway to improve another important route through Burton town centre. These resurfacing works will provide a much smoother and safer journey for everyone who uses Worthington Way.
“We know roadworks can be frustrating, which is why we’ve carefully coordinated this scheme alongside the Derby Road resurfacing project and scheduled most of the work overnight to reduce disruption as much as possible.
“Once complete, these improvements will make a real difference for residents, businesses and visitors travelling through the town.”
The work is being carefully coordinated with the Derby Road resurfacing scheme, which also begins today. Overnight working on Worthington Way means closures will not be in place at the same time.
