Work to remove the top surface of Derby Road in Burton will begin next week, ahead of resurfacing work.
The £2.3 million A5121 Derby Road scheme, delivered by Staffordshire County Council, involves resurfacing the route between Derby Turn island and the Pirelli roundabout.
Over the last couple of months, crews have completed repairs to the drainage system, replaced damaged kerbs and resurfaced sections of footways.
With civil works on track to complete this week, crews will begin removing the top surface of the road and strengthening sections of the base layer of the carriageway from Monday 3 August. This will be done under a lane closure on the side of the road closest to residential properties to enable one-way traffic.
From Sunday 9 August, the one-way system will be lifted and the road will close between the Pirelli Island to property number 91 for around one week.
Access to The Maltings Industrial Estate and Coytes Carpets will be via the local signed diversion route along Hawkins Lane to Derby Road.
There will be no on-street parking available during this phase of works for everyone's safety. Vehicle access to driveways will not always be possible due to large open excavations on the carriageway. Residents have been asked to make other parking arrangements in the meantime.
Once this stage of work is complete, engineers will be able to start carrying out overnight work to resurface the carriageway.

"Derby Road continues to make good progress, which is fantastic to see. Our crews are working hard to complete the work as efficiently as possible, whilst minimising disruption to communities.
"We're well over the halfway point with this project and, once complete, it will mean that a major entry point into Burton has been completely resurfaced from the A38 Clay Mills Interchange to the Derby Turns roundabout. This has been the result of significant county council investment into Burton's highway infrastructure, which I hope will make journeys into the town noticeably smoother."
