£2.3m Derby Road resurfacing scheme now under way

Derby Road

Work to fully resurface Derby Road in Burton is now under way.

The £2.3 million scheme, expected to take around three months, will see crews resurface the route between Derby Turn island and the Pirelli roundabout in two phases.

The first phase, which began this week, has seen crews carrying out civil works under a one-way system.

From Monday 6 July, crews will work overnight to resurface the road between the hours of 7pm to 6am from Monday to Friday. This work also includes carrying out repairs to ironworks, jetting the highways gullies and painting on new road markings.

The resurfacing will be completed in five stages to maintain access for residents and businesses in the area. Diversion routes will be in place via Hawkins Lane and the A38. While access to frontages will be maintained throughout the scheme where possible, there will be no on-street parking for everyone’s safety.

This scheme is the final phase of a wider highways programme to improve a key route into Burton, running from the A38 Clay Mills interchange through to Derby Road.

Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said: “Derby Road is one of the busiest routes into Burton and it has become worn over time. This £2.3 million scheme will deliver a full resurface to improve journeys for residents, businesses and commuters, and we’ll be working in phases and overnight where possible to reduce disruption.”

Letters have gone out to all affected residents and businesses.
