Work to resurface the A5121 Derby Road in Burton is now complete, marking the end of a wider £5.5 million project to reconstruct a key entry route into the town
Over the last four months, Staffordshire County Council's highways crews have been reconstructing Derby Road between the Derby Turn island and the Pirelli roundabout.
This work involved removing the top surface of the route, strengthening the carriageway's base where needed and then resurfacing the road. As part of the £2.3 million scheme, crews also cleared all the drains in the area and painted on fresh road markings.
The resurfacing was completed overnight and in sections to minimise restriction of access for residents and businesses.
The completion of this scheme marks the end of a wider three-year project to resurface a major entry route into Burton, from James Brindley Way, running along the A5121 Derby Road, through to the Derby Turn island.
Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said:
"I'm really pleased to see this final section of Derby Road now complete. It has been a significant programme of work, but we now have a much-improved route into Burton, with the whole stretch from James Brindley Way to Derby Turn having been resurfaced over the last three years.
"I'd like to thank residents, businesses and everyone who uses this route for their patience while we've carried out the work. We know roadworks can be disruptive, so it's great to see the project finished and the benefits of a smoother road now being enjoyed."
