Major road scheme set to progress with new traffic management in place

Creswell Grove plan

Work to create a junction to a new commercial development next to the M6 in Stafford is set to progress this Monday 18 May with new traffic management arrangements in place.

The junction and road widening forms part of the Stafford Gate scheme at Creswell on the A5013 Creswell Grove, close to junction 14.

While the 39-week scheme started earlier this month, traffic management was temporarily halted this week so that arrangements could be reviewed due to safety concerns by the project team.

The road scheme is for commercial development by Strawsons Property and is fully funded by the company.

To allow the works to be carried out safely, a one-way order will now be introduced at 6am on Monday towards junction 14 and Stafford town centre. It will be in operation during most of the scheme duration. There will also be other phased traffic management. Warning signs will be installed ahead of any changes to traffic arrangements, and signed diversion routes in place.

People are being reminded that anyone flouting the traffic order will be reported to the police.

The first phases of the scheme will see new drainage installed along with works apparatus, widening of the Creswell Grove westbound section and resurfacing of all the A5103 Creswell Grove in the new junction section.

Patrick Allen, cabinet support member for highways at Staffordshire County Council, said:

Following an immediate review of traffic management at Creswell Grove due to the project team’s concerns over safety, a new one-way order will be in place from Monday.

This is a significant development which will create jobs and provide local facilities which we welcome, but the road scheme providing access is a lengthy one which will impact our network.

While every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum, this scheme will inevitably cause delays and additional journey planning so we would like to thank people in advance for their patience during the works period.”

Details of the scheme, along with plans showing the works and diversion routes, are available on the scheme webpage.
