Support for Adult Carers

If you're 18 or over and look after someone who could not manage without your help, you may be an unpaid carer. This could be a partner, parent, child, relative, friend or neighbour.

You might help with everyday tasks, personal care, appointments or medicines, or provide emotional support.

You can get information, advice and support to help you in your caring role and look after your own wellbeing.

At a glance

  • A Carer’s Assessment is free and looks at your needs as a carer
  • You can ask for an assessment even if the person you care for does not receive social care
  • There is no minimum number of hours you need to spend caring to ask for an assessment
  • You can get information, advice and support before you reach crisis point
  • Staffordshire Together for Carers provides free support for carers
