Housing with Care (Extra Care Housing)
Housing with care – sometimes called extra care, assisted living, or sheltered housing – gives you the security of your own home with care and support available on site.
What is it?
- Self-contained flat with your own front door
- 24-hour care and support available if needed
- On-site facilities such as a café, lounge, or hair salon
- Social activities you can join if you choose
Why choose housing with care?
- You stay in control of your home and your life
- Couples and friends can live together
- Care can increase or decrease as your needs change
- A real community feel with a mix of people
How is it different from a care home?
- You have your own private home (rent, buy, or shared ownership)
- You decide who comes in and when
- You keep your independence but have peace of mind that help is nearby
How to find a scheme
- Search for schemes on Staffordshire Connects
- Visit the Housing Care website
- Use the Extra Care Housing Map
How to apply
- If you pay for your own care, contact the housing provider directly
- If you qualify for council support, your social care worker will help with the application and financial assessment
