If you need major adaptations to your home, you may be able to get help through a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG). A DFG can help pay for adaptations that allow you to live more safely and independently.
Do I need to pay towards the cost?
Whether you need to contribute depends on the type of adaptation and your individual circumstances.
Adaptations costing £1,000 or less
If you are assessed as eligible for care and support, smaller adaptations are usually provided at no cost to you.
Adaptations costing more than £1,000
For larger adaptations, you may be asked to contribute towards the cost. This is decided through a financial assessment.
Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG)
If you need major adaptations, such as a stair lift or level-access shower, you may qualify for a Disabled Facilities Grant.
The grant can help cover the cost of larger works if you meet the eligibility criteria. The amount you may need to contribute depends on your financial circumstances.
What happens before funding is agreed?
Before funding can be approved:
- Your needs will be assessed.
- An Occupational Therapist may recommend adaptations.
- The proposed work will be reviewed.
- Funding arrangements and any contribution will be discussed with you.
