Safety inspections for lifts and hoists (LOLER)
Some types of lifting equipment must be inspected regularly to make sure they remain safe to use.
These inspections are carried out under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER), which are a legal requirement for certain types of equipment.
What equipment is inspected?
LOLER inspections may apply to equipment such as:
- ceiling hoists
- stair lifts
- other lifting equipment installed in your home
What happens during an inspection?
Inspections are carried out by the council's insurance provider.
They check for:
- signs of wear and tear
- damage to equipment
- faults that could affect safety
LOLER inspections are separate from routine servicing and maintenance.
What happens if a problem is found?
If a defect is found and the equipment is still under warranty, the issue will be reported to the manufacturer so that repairs can be arranged.
If the equipment is no longer under warranty, you will be informed of the issue and advised who is responsible for any repairs.
