Support for unpaid carers

Find out if you are a carer, what a Carer’s Assessment is, how to get support, and how to plan for emergencies.

Support for unpaid carers

If you look after someone who could not manage without your help, you are a carer. You might support a partner, parent, child, relative, friend, or neighbour. Caring can include personal care, taking someone to appointments, helping with meals or medicines, keeping them safe, or giving emotional support.

This section explains what help you can get, how to ask for it, and where to find local activities and advice.
