Who we are and what we do

The Access Team is part of Staffordshire County Council’s Information Governance Unit. We are responsible for processing requests for personal information (excluding children’s social care information), council data and information, requests relating to your information rights, and your comments and complaints relating to our handling of these requests.

Information we process

We will keep your contact information, details of your request, any subsequent communications relating to your request and records relating to our processing of your request. We will also keep a copy of information supplied to us by other county council services and other organisations that process information on behalf of Staffordshire County Council for the purpose of responding to your request for information.

This information is kept for 6 years from the end of the calendar that your request was made. This is in line with the relevant policy contained in our retention and disposal schedule.

Our basis for processing your information

Our lawful basis for processing your personal information is ‘legal obligation’. This means that in order for us to process requests for information as required under Data Protection Legislation, Freedom of Information Act and associated regulations, and Environmental Information Regulations and associated regulations we will need to process your personal information.

Who we share your information with and why

We will need to share details of your request, comment, or complaint with other county council services and other organisations as appropriate to be able to respond to your request. These organisations may include but are not limited to other public bodies, partner organisations, commissioned service providers, joint venture and private companies, the police, National Health Service, schools in order to process your request, and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if required to do so.
