- Home compost: If the soiled bedding is from vegetarian animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, hamster etc.), bedding such as sawdust shavings, shredded paper, straw or hay can be home composted. Do not place waste from a meat eating animal in the compost bin.
Recycle: Check your local council if animal bedding from a vegetarian animal can be placed in the kerbside garden waste bin.
Recovery (restrictions apply): A daily disposal limit of 2 bags (80 litre or equivalent x 2) of animal bedding per household is in place at Staffordshire's recycling centres. Waste placed in the residual waste skip will be sent to one of Staffordshire's energy recovery plants.

- Cement bonded asbestos is found in many places in the home including rainwater pipes, gutters, water tanks, insulation boards, garage/shed roofs, boiler flues and domestic equipment such as ovens, heaters and ironing boards. Generally, asbestos materials in good condition can be left in place and painted but should not be drilled, sanded or sawn.
Disposal (restrictions apply): Asbestos can be taken to recycling centres for disposal. There is a disposal restriction of 4 sheets (approximately 6' by 2; or 4' by 4') or 4 bags (approximately 25kg rubble bags) per household every 6 months.
