Wi-Fi

Free public wi-fi on some buses in Stafford helps the promotion of travelling by public transport. Wi-fi technology allows bus passengers to:

  • check departure and arrival times for other travel services
  • read emails
  • shop online
  • catch up with work

A unit has been installed on the buses containing the electronics necessary for the wi-fi systems along with a device to connect to the cellular data network.

The introduction of wi-fi will help to encourage modal shift. While motorists have a frustrating journey to work, bus users will be able to choose to either work or surf the internet.

Benefits

This investment, added to real-time passenger information (RPTI), brings significant transport benefits for all forms of travel, better connecting people to jobs, education and leisure.

It encourages more people to leave the car at home and take advantage of other means of travel will save them money by reducing the amount they spend on highly priced fuel and help them use their travelling time more productively.
