- Staffordshire highways crews have been working round the clock as high winds from Storm Lilian hit the county overnight and into this morning (Friday). Winds of up to 52 mph—unusual for this time of year—swept through the county last night, causing power cuts and downed trees.

- A major road and transport improvement scheme is moving forward to its next phase with traffic management changes in place from September 1. The scheme will see improvements from the A34 Weeping Cross to the Queensville island. This will be followed by works on the section from Queensville to Queensway next spring.

- Final plans are being developed for new cycleways in Newcastle town centre which will provide continuity from existing routes and link to Keele University and Stoke-on-Trent railway station.

- A bridge in Branston will be under a weight restriction for the foreseeable future, for safety reasons. The Branston Railway Bridge on the B5018 Main Street will be restricted to vehicles under 7.5 tonnes, and will have a 2.3 metre width restriction imposed along its length.

- A newly constructed bridge in South Staffordshire is connecting rural communities to a main route through the county as well as helping to protect nearby residents from flooding.

- The Swan Junction on the A511 at the south-eastern end of Burton Bridge is currently undergoing a seven-week overhaul that will see resurfacing, drainage repair, replacement of traffic lights, guardrails and the cutting back of vegetation.

- A £600,000 project to resurface a key junction in Norton Canes is now in progress. Staffordshire County Council's highways crews will be working to resurface the Burntwood Road junction of Brownhills Road.
