£1.5m Tamworth highways improvement scheme completes

Coleshill St Complete NEWSROOM

The £1.5m Coleshill Street and Atherstone Street resurfacing scheme has been completed in Tamworth.

A major £1.5 million highways improvement project to resurface one of Tamworth’s key routes has completed on schedule.

Staffordshire County Council’s highways crews have finished the final phase of work along A4091 Coleshill Street and Atherstone Street in Fazeley, marking the successful completion of the wider project that began earlier this year.

The scheme has seen significant resurfacing works, replacement of ironworks, and repairs to kerbs and footpaths.

It follows earlier improvements carried out in July to resurface the Coleshill Street Island and its approaches. That phase of work had to be paused due to abuse directed at highways workers during night shifts.

Thanks to the hard work and resilience of crews, the full scheme was brought to completion on Friday 10 October.

Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said:

“It’s fantastic to see this major scheme now complete and delivered on schedule. The improvements along Coleshill Street and Atherstone Street will make a real difference and help to keep traffic flowing smoothly, while supporting local businesses and communities who rely on these key routes every day.

“I’d like to thank everyone in the area for their patience and cooperation while our crews carried out the work. The results speak for themselves, and this investment will benefit Tamworth for many years to come.”

The completion comes as the county council launches its Road Map to a Better Network - an ambitious new plan to reverse decades of decline in Staffordshire’s highways.

The strategy focuses on carrying out more whole-road repairs, using smarter technology and local teams to cut repeat visits, delivering better value for money, and securing fairer long-term funding from government.
