WELLIES Wellbeing

Therapeutic learning activities with animals, plants, creativity and the countryside for people recovering from poor mental health. 

Who is the course aimed at?

This course is aimed at people recovering from mental ill health, typically this is anxiety and depression. The course aims to improve confidence and self-esteem through taking part in a wide variety of practical activities. You will have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities such as gardening, woodwork, metal work and crafting developing key transferable skills to the home or future volunteering or employment opportunities. On the course, you will have the opportunity to share and collaborate with others to make a range of items, some of which may be sold at events. Developing wider skills such as maths, English and digital aims to improve self-confidence and key skills that supports progression such as volunteering or employment. 

Entry Requirements 

Staffordshire residents aged 19+ who would like to support their wellbeing, are experiencing or recovering from mental ill health or people who are unemployed and would like to re-engage with learning. 

Course Content

Seasonal learning activities to support health and wellbeing. This includes activities such cooking, crafting, woodwork, countryside skills, animal care, horticulture and floristry.

Learning Methods

Practical tasks, discussion, shared reading and individual learning plans that track personal development and progress.

Learning Support

Learners will have an initial assessment via a phone call or face to face meeting as an introduction to the course and to establish needs.

You will have an initial assessment via a phone call or face to face meeting as an introduction to the course and to establish individual needs. During the course you will be asked to complete reflections on new skills or knowledge gained on the course which the tutor will proivde feedback on.

What can learner’s do next/progress onto?

You may progress onto Science Technology Engineering and maths (STEM) courses or other wellbeing courses to support progression. Learners are supported throughout the course in finding volunteering or employment opportunities.
