Still time to apply for primary school places

Families whose children will be attending primary school for the first time in September 2026 are being encouraged to get their applications in as soon as possible.

Primary school applications close on 15 January, so there is still time to get their applications in ahead of the deadline.

Last year, the county council offered nine out of 10 parents their first-choice primary school. A total of 99 per cent were allocated one of their top three preferred schools.

Now, parents who have not yet applied for primary school places are being urged to get their applications in before the window closes, to ensure they are not disadvantaged when it comes to allocating places.

Janet Higgins, Staffordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Education said:

“Staffordshire has a fantastic record of allocating the overwhelming majority of parents one of their top three primary schools. However, this relies on parents getting their applications in on time.

“The majority of parents have already submitted their applications, but we want to ensure every parent with children starting school in 2026 applies before the closing date.”

Parents can apply via the Staffordshire County Council website.
