Admissions for secondary and high schools
Applications will open for September 2020 entry on 2 September 2019. Further details will be available late August/early September.

If you wish to apply for a grammar school place or JCB Academy, please contact the relevant school for further information in relation to their admission procedure.
Over 92% of parents in Staffordshire have been allocated a place at their 1st preferred school with at least 96% being offered a place at one of their top 3 preferences.
For middle to high school (year 9), 100% of parents in Staffordshire have been allocated a place at their 1st preferred school (excluding those unsuccessful applications made for The JCB Academy in Rocester).
When will I receive my offer of a secondary school place?
If you made your application online then you will receive your offer by email on 1 March 2019. Due to the volume of emails sent, we cannot confirm a time (experience has shown that in previous years by about 1pm most emails have been received). The email is official written confirmation of the outcome of your application.
If you applied using a paper form you will receive a letter in the post. These will be posted on Friday 1 March 2019. As we operate a second class postal system it may take a few days for your letter to reach you.

How were the secondary school places allocated for September 2019?
Places have been allocated in accordance with the published admission arrangements for each school. Please note that the local authority is only responsible for the admission arrangements for community and voluntary controlled schools.
If you have been unsuccessful in securing a place at your preferred school then it is because there were more applications made for that school than places available. Pupils who had a higher priority for a place, in accordance with the published admission arrangements, have been allocated the available places.

Which schools still have available places?
You can view a summary of available secondary school places. Schools that have filled all their available places but have not made any refusals, will not appear on this list.
If you wish to make a late application for any of the available places, Staffordshire residents may complete the paper application form or email the details to firstname.lastname@example.org. Any late applications must be submitted through the local authority where you currently reside and not where the school is situated. Staffordshire will begin the process of allocating places for late applications 10 school days after offer day.
Non-Staffordshire residents should contact their home local authority regarding their late application procedure.
If the Staffordshire school you wish to make a late preference for is oversubscribed then you will be added to the waiting list and entitled to a right of appeal.
I am satisfied with the school that I have been offered. What do I need to do?
You do not need to do anything to accept the school place offered. The school will contact you to confirm starting arrangements at a later date.
I have not been offered a place at my preferred school.
Will my child be placed on a waiting list?
All children who have been refused a place at a Staffordshire school will be automatically added to the waiting list. Waiting lists will be maintained until the 31 December 2019.
Waiting lists for all Staffordshire schools are ranked using the admission arrangements for the school. Your child's position on a waiting list at most Staffordshire schools can be obtained by emailing email@example.com or telephoning 0300 111 8007.
It is important to note that a child's position on any waiting list is not fixed and is subject to change.
Guidance on waiting lists for schools that are not located within Staffordshire should be sought by contacting the relevant local authority.
Can I appeal?
If you have not been offered a place at one or more of your preferred schools then you have a statutory right of appeal. For Staffordshire schools please refer to our appeal page for guidance on how to appeal, including the relevant appeal forms.
If you have not been successful in obtaining a place at a school that is located outside of Staffordshire and would like to appeal please contact or visit the website of the relevant local authority.
Why have I not been offered my catchment area school?
A place at a catchment area school will only have been offered if you made a preference for it or where places remained available. If you did not name the catchment school as a preference, and it was oversubscribed, then places will only have been offered to those parents who applied in the first instance.
Is my child entitled to free home to school travel assistance?
If you made an online application for a school place, and your child has been assessed as being entitled to free home to school transport assistance then you will receive email notification advising you of your entitlement.
If you made a paper application for a school place, and your child has been assessed as eligible for free home to school travel assistance, then you will receive your child's travel pass through the post by 12 August 2019.

If your child is in receipt of free school meals or you are receiving the maximum level of working tax credits then he/she may be entitled to travel assistance to school. Further information and details of how to apply can be found on the school transport for under 16s web page.
