Catchment areas

All children who live in Staffordshire will reside within a catchment area for transport policy purposes but not all will reside within a catchment for admissions purposes.

If a school is an Academy, Voluntary Aided or Foundation school, it is its own admission authority, and can therefore decide whether to give priority to catchment area children or not.

Currently, there are 16 schools in Staffordshire, who do not give priority to catchment area children.  Please note:  The schools below will still appear on the postcode search as your catchment school, however, this will only be for transport purposes.

  • Birds Bush Primary School
  • Erasmus Darwin Academy
  • Five Spires Academy
  • Forest Hills Primary
  • Heath Hayes Academy
  • Henhurst Ridge Primary Academy
  • Norton Canes Primary Academy
  • Scientia Academy
  • Silkmore Primary Academy
  • Springhill Primary Academy
  • Streethay Primary School
  • Sun Academy
  • The Hart School
  • Three Peaks Primary Academy
  • Westwood First School
  • Veritas Primary Academy

There is no guaranteed admission to your catchment area school.  Allocations will be dependent on the availability of spaces in the relevant year group.

How are catchment areas decided?

The school catchment areas that operate within Staffordshire are in the main historic and would have been drawn up to take account of a range of factors including parish/ward/natural boundaries, local populations, location of schools and school transport links. Due to these factors a child’s catchment area school is not always the school that is closest or located within the district that a family pays its council tax.

How do I find out my catchment area?

Use our school guide to find the catchment schools for your area.  You will need to enter the name of the school in the search box in order to view the catchment area map.

Can I get a copy of a catchment area map?

Yes. As well as being able to view a copy via the school guide, copies of school catchment maps are available from the individual school or the local authority.
