The Armed Forces Covenant

The Covenant is a promise by the nation to ensure that those who serve orAFC_RECOG_GOLD have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

The Covenant was established in 2011 and since then, thousands of different organisations – including businesses, local authorities, universities, and charities – have chosen to sign a pledge to honour the Covenant.

The Staffordshire Armed Forces Covenant was originally signed in 2012, with a re-signing taking place in 2015.

The Staffordshire Armed Forces Covenant Partnership brings together key partners and the armed forces to work with, help and practically support current and former service personnel and their families in the local area.

Staffordshire County Council holds a Gold Award from the Defence Employment Recognition Scheme, marking our further commitment.

The Employment Recognition Scheme encourages employers to pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the Armed Forces Community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.

We are also encouraging Staffordshire businesses, community groups and individuals to work with us to pledge their support to armed forces personnel and their families as well as reservists and veterans.

The Armed Forces Covenant Fund

The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust supports the Armed Forces Covenant by delivering funding programmes that create real change to Armed Forces communities across the UK. There are four broad funding themes:

  1. Non-core healthcare services for veterans
  2. Removing barriers to family life
  3. Extra support, both in and after service, for those who need help
  4. Measures to integrate military and civilian communities and allow the Armed Forces community to participate as citizens.

Grants are awarded through specific programmes which each have their own aim and guidance. To view the current open programmes, see the Covenant website.

For help and advice when submitting bids, contact amanda.dawson-blower@staffordshire.gov.uk.
