Restricted wastes and disposal limits

Limits are in place for certain types of waste. These items can be disposed of free of charge, but restrictions apply.

Some non-household waste may be chargeable.

For restricted waste, residents may be asked to complete a disclaimer form when they arrive at site to confirm.

  • the waste is from their household
  • it has not come from commercial use
  • they understand a limit applies to how much they can dispose of

How much can I take?

Asbestos (cement bonded) 4 sheets or 4 bags Every 6 months Accepted at 5 HWRCs only. Disposal allowed between 1pm–3pm. Must be double wrapped in heavy-duty clear polythene and sealed with tape.
Car batteries 2 lead acid batteries Every 6 months  
Dead animals Not permitted  
Fire extinguishers 2 extinguishers (up to 2 kg) Every 6 months  
Fitted items (doors, window frames, cupboards, wardrobes) 1 cubic metre Every 6 months Equivalent to a family car load
Gas cylinders 2 cylinders (up to 19 kg) Every 6 months  
Household and garden chemicals 5 × 2.5 litre containers Every 6 months Or equivalent volume
Paint 10 × 2.5 litre pots Every 6 months Or equivalent volume
uPVC items (soffits, fascias, guttering, pipes, windows, doors) 1 cubic metre Every 6 months Equivalent to a family car load
