Who is the course aimed at?
This introductory course is designed to help learners develop essential IT skills that are commonly used in office environments and workplaces. It provides a practical introduction to a range of digital tools and technologies, helping learners build confidence in using computers and workplace software effectively.
Throughout the course, learners will explore key IT functions, including creating and managing documents, using email professionally, organising digital information, and developing an understanding of common office systems and applications. The course will also introduce learners to good digital working practices, including online safety, data security, and effective communication using technology.
Learners will gain valuable skills that can support employment, further learning, or progression within a current role. The course is suitable for beginners or those who wish to refresh and improve their existing IT knowledge in a supportive learning environment.
Entry requirements
Staffordshire residents aged 19+, those interested in developing their information technology skills that would be used in a work or office environment.
Course content - What you will learn
This course will take your existing knowledge and skills of IT and help you to develop them further in readiness for the workplace. As part of the programme you will learn more about using emails, the internet, Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as ensuring you know how to stay safe online. Equally, there will be sections that cover how to use basic Artificial Intelligence(AI) and how to identify scams produced by AI Content.
Learning methods - how you will learn
The trainer will deliver the course in a friendly and welcoming classroom environment. You will have the opportunity to work independently and with your classmates in a range of activities and discussions.
Learning support
Learners will take part in an initial assessment prior to the course starting to identify starting points and agree and supports needs you may require. Some venues may have limited accessibility, please ask for further details if you want support with this.
Learning materials - what you will need to bring
Laptop or Tablets will be provided. You may wish to bring along a notepad and pen to capture hints and tips along the way.
Course assessments - how you will be assessed
No formal assessments take place. Informal assessments occur via observations, activities and group discussions to assess your progress and set learning goals or objectives.

Learners can progress on to other Acorn or Staffordshire community learning courses to continue your progression. Support will also be given to access accredited courses or volunteering or employment opportunities.
