Who is the course aimed at?
This is an introductory course for Staffordshire residents aged 19+ who would like to support their wellbeing, learn new vocational skills, including those who are experiencing or recovering from mental ill health, have a learning difficulty, are unemployed and wish to progress towards self-employment.
Entry Requirements
No prior experience or formal entry requirements are needed to take part in this course, just an interest in gaining confidence in your English, Maths and Digital skills. You will be able to work with others as part of a team, design and create festive products and learn the skills involved in selling them at a local community market.
What you will learn
This course will help you to create and run a Festive community event – selling festive products that you have designed and created as part of the course. You will be able to work as part of a team, gain more confidence using maths, English and digital skills. We will discuss your personal goals and how to listen and communicate with others successfully. This course will support your independence and your next step towards volunteering or self-employment.
Learning Materials
All course resources and equipment will be provided by CARE. You will have an opportunity to forage for natural resources and use upcycled materials too.
Learning Methods
This is a face-to-face learning course with a 'learning at home' element - you will complete 4.5 hours face to face at CARE plus 30 mins home learning per week. The course will provide an opportunity to develop your digital, volunteering and employability skills further, learn about and use new and emerging digital applications, socialise with others in the learning environment. Learning is also supported with an on-line Padlet learning blog.
Learner Support
Your Tutor will support your learning, including help with IT skills to photograph and record your work. Transport is available from Cannock Leisure Centre, Penkridge Village, Stafford Sainsbury's, The Royal Oak car park at Rising Brook.
How you will be assessed
At the start of your course the tutor will find out a little more about you, your previous learning, the support you may need, what you would like to achieve on the course and guide you to set some personal goals. During the course you will be asked to reflect on your learning at regular ponts and will receive feedback from your tutor on your progress and achievement. You will receive a personal certificate of achievement at the end of the course.
What can learners progress onto
At the end of the course you will be provided with information/advice on other learning opportunities/local activities and jobs and support available on-line and in your community. This could include: support to start your own business; further English, numeracy and digital skills courses; Skills Bootcamp courses to help you develop vocational skills or a career.
